Wearing a face covering.

There are a few circumstances where wearing a face covering is not appropriate. People are not expected to prove that they are exempt from wearing a face covering.

There are a few exceptions to wearing a face covering, namely:

  • people who cannot put on, wear, or remove a face covering because of a physical or mental illness or impairment, or disability.

  • where putting on, wearing, or removing a face covering will cause you severe distress.

  • if you are speaking to or providing assistance to someone who relies on lip reading, clear sound or facial expressions to communicate.

You need to agree if an exception should be applied to a client and discuss this with the manager. This agreement must be recorded on Views if this applies to a client.

Staff should familiarise themselves with the government guidelines referred to above.
