COUNSELLOR / PSYCHOTHERAPIST

Applications are invited for a part time Counsellor/Psychotherapist tenable immediately, based at the Abingdon bridge youth project.

Hours Between 5 – 8 weekly TBA

Candidates should be able to:

  • Provide individual counselling, within a brief model, to young people with psychological and emotional problems.
  • Carry out regular evaluation of this work.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and other affiliated organisations to develop the well-being of clients, as well as liaising with medical services.
  • Contribute to the educational and training role of the service.
  • Contribute to the overall development of the service.

Applicants should be accredited/registered by BACP or equivalent body.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

                           Up to £15.00 p/h depending on qualifications and experience.

                       TAB, 27 Bridge St, Abingdon, Oxon OX14 3HN

Job purpose:                 
To develop the highest quality of counselling provision for young people in South Oxfordshire in line with TAB aims and objectives.                                             

Reporting to:                 The Lead Counsellor

Also Reporting to:
         TAB Manager

Responsible for:           
Counselling service provision at TAB as required by the Lead Counsellor.

Working closely with
     TAB staff and affiliated services in South Oxfordshire

Duties and
Responsibilities:            To provide brief counselling for 11 – 25 year olds referred to TAB.  Practitioner is expected to contribute to the development of the service including the delivery of group work, and psycho-educational workshop programme.

 

1.     Counselling:

a)     To provide dynamic, high quality, time limited counselling for young people accessing TAB, appropriate to individual need.

b)     To keep the Lead Counsellor informed of clinical issues as required by  BACP guidelines.

c)     To manage a caseload of counselling work, determining levels of student risk, take responsibility for defining the length of the therapeutic intervention and define and manage an
        appropriate counselling relationship compatible with the intended length of work.

d)     To engage in formal structures for reflective practice e.g: clinical supervision and to report on work in progress through regular, individual  management review sessions as required.

e)     To contribute to the maintenance and development of the counselling service in an imaginative, creative and collaborative manner.

f)     To have a good knowledge of currently available self help materials and to design such materials appropriate to this particular context.

 

2.     Staff, Colleagues and Training:

a)     To assist in the training provision for volunteer counsellors as required by the Lead Counsellor.

b)     To participate in Service meetings, and initiatives as agreed with the Lead Counsellor.

c)     To participate in staff development opportunities as appropriate.

d)     To work collaboratively with the Lead Counsellor and TAB colleagues.

e)     To assist with assessments as required by the Lead Counsellor.

f)     To uphold equal opportunity values in service delivery and in relation to service users and staff.

g)     To offer appropriate cover for the Lead Counsellor.

 

3.    Local Communities, Organisations and Other Agencies:

a)     To keep up to date with relevant youth counselling research and information, and developments locally and nationally, and develop evidence-based practice accordingly.

b)     To manage the case load within the Ethical Framework of the BACP, and to preserve the confidential nature of the service provided to individuals  while responding appropriately to the institution’s duty of care to others.

c)     To assist in the maintenance of strategies to ensure that the Youth Counselling Service reflects the diversity of the local community.

 

4.    Reports, Monitoring, Evaluation, Administration and Finance:

a)     To  maintain adequate records and fulfil the administrative requirements of the service.

b)     To contribute to the accumulation of statistical information, as required by the service.

c)     To work within the financial constraints on the service.

d)     To assist in the administration of TAB’s Counselling Service.

e)     To implement TAB Quality Assurance systems as appropriate.

f)     To monitor work as requested.

g)     To prepare reports, case studies etc and provide statistical information relating to TAB’s Counselling Service as required by the Lead Counsellor.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

     ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  1. Applicants must be accredited/registered by the BACP or equivalent body, or working towards accreditation.
  2. Substantial experience (a minimum of 3 years) of delivering individual counselling/psychotherapy to young people for a range of psychological problems and at significant depth.
  3. Experience of adapting a theoretical model to a brief approach.
  4. Experience and active interest in working within a multi disciplinary team.
  5. Experience of incorporating evidence on best practice into clinical work and training courses.
  6. Evidence of ability to identify training needs and design and develop in-service training accordingly.
  7. Evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills.
     DESIRABLE CRITERIA:
  1. Experience of playing an active part in organisational development.
  2. Experience of using recognised instruments for the evaluation of counselling and training.
  3. Experience of delivering group work.
